Not drunken but fund-raising

The Rowing Service

Following the article in Monday's Scotsman I would just like to clarify the event.

It was held on Tuesday evening and was motivated entirely by the need to fundraise for what we all know is an expensive sport. Obviously, contrary to suggestions by Jack Law it was not intended to get EUBC members drunk, but rather to start the ball rolling in what EUBC is determined to see as a fantastic year of success through a great deal of hard work, fundraising and general club enjoyment.

Clearly, this was blown out of all proportion by the misinterpretation that we were planning to forcefully make everyone 'down 1000 pints.' There was an immense amount of planning beforehand and a guarantee of a huge turnout, throwing the insinuation that it was encouraging binge drinking into complete disrepute. Everyone was participating because of the fact that it was in aid of raising funds for their club, and not because they were being pressured into drinking.

: It is upsetting that the full story was not able to be conveyed. I am sincerely sorry that such a genuinely well intended and hugely successful fundraiser was made to seem so irresponsible and worthy of concern. Despite the obvious reprecussions this has lead to, huge thanks ought to go to those who organised the event which meant that the boat club is now in excess of £350 better off.

I would really appreciate if this was made available to those who are understandably concerned after reading such an article and hope that you now understand the situation as it truly was.
