Rowers Marathon Row for Guide Dogs NSW/ACT
Published online Friday 18th November 2005

Olympic medallists through to school rowers throughout New South Wales, Australia, will row to raise funds for the Guide Dogs NSW/ACT on Saturday 19 November.

The St. George Rowing Club athletes will be rowing a Team relay for 24 hours on an indoor rowing machine at their Arncliffe Licensed Club commencing at 3pm.

Head Coach Ron Batt will undertake a new world record attempt when he commences a 24 hour individual row on an ergo at the same time, 307,683m to beat..

Joining them at Arncliffe will be a group of very experienced multiple Olympians, including six members of last years Bronze Medal winning Men's Eight: Bo Hanson, Stuart Welch, Stefan Szczurowski, and the three champion brothers, Geoff, James and Steve Stewart. Jason Day, Peter Hardcastle, and Benny Dodwell with a wealth of Olympic success between them will also be involved on the day.

Blind 2003 World Rowing Champion, Ben Felten will also be rowing in the ergothon.

The inspiration behind the fund raising efforts arises from the late Dr Bill Webb, who died last year. This wonderful man devoted his life to the sport of rowing, he was the Chief Medical Doctor of the Australian Team from the eighties and was the President of NSW Rowing at the time of his death.

The Dr Bill Webb Fund was established to assist a major passion of Bill, the Guide Dogs of NSW/ACT and it is hoped that we can manage to raise sufficient funds to acquire 'Pick a Pack of Pups' for the Dr Bill Webb Fund with the NSW Guide Dogs. A pack is twelve dogs at $1,500's each. We are keen to secure sponsorship support and we are not just seeking funds but also participation in which corporate sponsors will be able to sponsor and have employees undertake a row in an eight or a quad scull with these great champions.

All donations over $2's are tax deductible, and all money raised goes to the Guide Dogs NSW/ACT at www.guidedogs.com.au. The donors need to please phone Trudy on 02 9412 9300 and she will then be able to ensure the funds go into Bill's fund. Trudy will also send out a receipt for tax purposes.

Please contact me for any more details, ronb@stgeorgerowing.com.au or my numbers are 9589 1823 (w) or 0410 583 474. We hope that you will view this request favourably and help to build it into an extremely successful fund raising event. It will be a long but outstanding day.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Yours cheerfully in sport,

Ron Batt

St George Rowing Club, Australia.
