Open Letter from Ian Shore

"I would like to make a public apology for having inadvertently entered an ineligible person in this event.

The person in question won a medal at the National Championships in a junior event in 2003.

By entering her there was no intention to deceive or manipulate results: it was a plain mistake for which I take full responsibility. My apologies to her, to the Regatta and to all the clubs in the event.

The club and I accept that by taking this action and subsequently being disqualified, we have let down all the competitors, Henley Women's Regatta and our club.

The issue was brought to light after our semi-final race on Sunday therefore denying the crews in our half of the draw an opportunity to make the final, and meaning Thames had to have no race in the final.

We as a club will be taking action to ensure a mistake like this does not occur in the future but once again please accept my apology for this happening."

Ian Shore, chief coach OUWBC
