Steve is a Genius

From Christopher Dodd.

The latest award to alight on Steve Redgrave CBE's noble brow is Brain of the Year! On the same day as the announcement that the site of Aristotle's Renaissance Academy had been discovered in Athens, the Brain Trust unanimously chose Redgrave as their Brain of the Year on the grounds that 20 continual years of training for four consecutive Olympic golds was a Herculean triumph of the mind.

The oarsman beat Bill Gates of Microsoft, Anatoly Karpov the world chess champion, the oceanographer Jacques Cousteau and Professor Deepak Chopra, director of the Institute for Mind, Body, Medicine and Human Potential for the nomination. The qualities attributed to his 'profile of genius' are outstanding vision, desire, faith, commitment, planning, persistence and endurance, knowledge of subject, imagination - 'Redgrave is a superb visualiser' - positive attitude, tactical thinking, strategic thinking, creativity and flexibility, and energy.

Tony Buzan, a council member of the Trust and psychologist to the British rowing team in 1988, said:

'It is about time the world rid itself of two ridiculous notions: that the brainy person or nerd is a weak, physical wimp, and that the athlete is a "thick jock". All modern research has shown the reverse to be true. Redgrave is a perfect example. He exhibits all the characteristics of genius, and is also exceptionally talented in the multiple intelligence areas of creativity, body kinesetic intelligence, intra-personal intelligence, spatial intelligence and logical intelligence.'
