Tom Agutter dies, aged 88

The Rowing Service

4th July 2004, from Peterborough City Rowing Club

It is with great sorrow that we have to inform you that Tom Agutter passed away peacefully last week.

Many will remember him as the old gentleman who sat in the corner of the bar of Peterborough City Rowing Club (PCRC). Or as that stalwart supporter, committee member, coach and founder member of PCRC, always there in the background working hard, encouraging and supporting more active members. In the wider rowing community he was a supporter of local clubs and regattas as an official and source of much wisdom.

Tom was 88 (we think!) and had been involved in rowing at Peterborough since 1947 coming into it from his other favourite sport, rugby. He will be sadly missed.

Tom's health had been deteriorating over the last 6 months but being fiercely independent refused to leave his home until recently. He passed away in the early hours of Sunday 27th June in hospital.

The funeral will be at Longthorpe Church Peterborough (cars meeting and parking at PCRC) at 3pm Thursday July 8th 2004. Afterwards friends are welcome to celebrate his life at the club in the manner he would have wanted!
